Willie Colon

Meet Willie Colon. Willie plays a multitude of instruments including guitar, bass, keyboard and percussion. It is his vocal abilities that set him apart from the rest. His expressive voice gives the term “blue-eyed soul” new meaning. In the early 70’s, Willie played with the group “Free Flight” which quickly paid their musical dues and rose to international stardom when they became the band called “Bimbo Jet”. Their Latin influenced disco song “El Bimbo” rose to #1 on the music charts. The song sold 14 ½ million records worldwide, went gold and was featured in 4 of the 7 “Police Academy” movies. The band toured the United States and Canada, playing to sold-out arenas.

Willie joined the band “Catharsis”. The group played in the New York and tri-state area club scene. Soon after, the group “Flyer” was born. Willie’s interpretive vocals takes “Flyer’s” songs to a level other vocalists can only hope to reach. With every soulful note he sings, he touches the senses and paints a picture in the mind’s eye. Willie’s creative abilities help produce the melodic hooks and orchestrations heard on many of the group’s songs. While Willie’s Latin roots flavor the percussive arrangements, the chemistry between Willie and the band members carries on through today and is evident in the music, with both “Flyer” and now with the Borinquen Blues Band.

As an Independent Producer who has a state of the art Recording Studio, Willie loves writing and arranging all types of music!
