G'day Tom,
I would like to take you up on your offer to help me change my RR "Coming soon" page. I went to view, source and edited a few things (like deleting the adverts) and several other things went to file and saved. Nothing changed for me, just went back to the original. Would you please point me in the right direction. Ithink I might have jagged it, is the file called Index.html that you can access after logging on?

Regards terryp

No Terry. Only YOU can gain access to your account UNLESS you give your password to someone else. If that EVER happens, and you didn't want it to, then IMMEDIATELY change your password. That is done by Logging In to your RedRival account. Then after you login, you can access a link on top of your File Manager that says "Change Password".

OK... The "Coming Soon" Page is actually an auto-generated index page, It is named index.html. It contains ads and occasional pop-ups. Yecch!!!!

What you need to do is one of 2 things..

1. Delete the current index.html (Coming soon page), and replace it with your own by either uploading a replacement page through the File Manager, or an FTP client (I explained about these 2 methods in more detail for you HERE).

2. Delete that page and create another index page using any other one of the 5 accepted file names in the filename hierarchy at RedRival...

There is no "one" default filename, but if there was, it would be index.shtml. There is a reason for this. It is the FIRST in a hierarchy of 5 possibilities.

This the order in which files are loaded when you put in your URL without a file name.

index.shtml
index.html
index.htm
default.htm
default.html

If one is not present, it skips to the next file to display, if that isn't present, it goes to the next and so on... in the ABOVE order.

Now... say you have named your homepage to default.html, and NONE of the other filenames exist in that particular directory (if it is the root). You may simply type in your URL without a filename path ending, and your homepage will be loaded.

But... if you upload another file with ANY ONE of the preceding 4 filenames within the filename hierarchy, then when typing in your URL without a filename path ending, THAT new page will load and NOT your homepage.

Question: How can I play it safe and insure that my homepage ALWAYS loads when just typing in URL?

Answer: Name your homepage index.shtml

OK. Terry...

If all this is TOO much for you to soak in at once, don't let it bother you. You can always email me privately and let me know what type of replacement page you would want, including any "content", colors and/or images you would like on it. I would be MORE than happy creating that page for you. No problem. I would then upload the page "temporarily" to my server so that you could examine it, and tell me if it requires any changes. Once satisfied, I will send you the completed page as an email attachment, and you can then upload it to your RedRival server space at http://redrival.com/terryp

Also... case-sensitivity is VERY important. You mentioned its name being Index.html. That is not a valid "index page" filename at the RR server (of the 5 that I listed for you above). The capital "I" is not recognized. However, index.html would be a valid index page, with ALL lower-case characters.

Take care!
...Tom

Terry!!! Hey! C'mon now!!!

You went in and edited your first message. I don't want people thinking I've got "bats in my belfry". I'm NOT crazy! LOL! You DID originally ask me also if there was a possibility of someone else going in to make changes to your site. You DID! I'm not a nut! LOL!

G'day Tom,
Many many thanks for your prompt reply. I, by investigating found that the index.html file is the one in question. I have been in and played around with it for fun and got rid of the adverts etc. I will now play a bit more and see what I can do for my self (thanks for your offer) but at this stage I have nothing in mind and just want to experiment and try to learn as I go.
Thanks again
Terry.
P.S I will be copying your replies for reference. AND oh dear I got caught out, not quick enough with my editing.
Phzzz is not potty it was all my fault.
There, hows that LOL

G,day Tom,

Now look here, as you have been very helpful to me in the past and perhaps in the future, please visit my RR page. This is only for a short period as the more I see of "P" the more I could easily fall in love with her myself. LOL

ROFLMAO!!!

... http://redrival.com/terryp

But... really! Isn't she just GORGEOUS??? My very own heart throb!

Nahhh... we no longer see each other, so, I'm happy to say.... YOU can have a crack at her now!

I'll send you her phone number via email. She likes long-stemmed roses and don't worry too much about where to take her to dinner. Small squirming live mammals and lizards will do just fine for her for a quiet and romantic dinner at either your place or hers.

G'day Tom,

I really do thank you for your matchmaking efforts but I am sorry to say I have to decline. For one thing at the age of 63 I dont think I could ever satisfy "P" as much as you did and not only that, I have a feeling she would kill me if I even tried.
I know you had every good intention but I am sorry I just cannot accept. Is there not a chance of reconciliation between your good self and "P"? I suppose that my reference to "P" in my previous post was just a stab at making you jealous to try to get you two together again. As Shadowhawke pointed out, we are all friends here and I certainly would not steal your ex-ghoulfriend. I think that for "P"s sake you should approach her and ask for forgivness and to get back together.I dont remember you ever telling us about your lovers tiff or whose fault it was that made you part but look at her could'nt you find a little kindness in your heart to take her back. I am not sure whether there is something on my screen or not. but is that a a teardrop in "P" eyes, I am equally sure that a little comfort from you would brighten her up.

Still your friend
Terry
P.S Please, all Toms friends, would you help get Tom and "P" together again. Also please oh please help me get out of this mess I have managed to get myself into.

Enduring image...one that will probably stay with me for the rest of my life, every time I see Prunella's lovely face.

You sure have a way with words John.

LOL. John.. you are a sick dude!

Regis and Kathy Lee / How I created "Prunella":

I was amazed last year when my sister-in-law phoned me to have me turn on the TV to watch Regis and Kathy Lee. I told her I never watch that dumb show. But she insisted. They were featuring 'the ugliest girl on the internet'. So I tuned in and I was SHOCKED to see Prunella featured there!! My God! To think that a photo of my brother that I manipulated and bastardized in a program called Kai's Photo Soap had become such an internet presence!! LOL!

Yep... Prunella is actually a photo of my brother Robert that I manipulated in Kai's Photo Soap and then threw out on the net. One eye is that of a Doberman Pinscher and the other eye is that of a Spider Monkey. The hideous mouth was painted in by me, and the pig tails were taken from somewhere else (I can not recall just now where though). The beard was 'air-brushed' on.
